Why is self-care important?
Self-care is key to maintaining good mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing. The body, mind, and self change moment by moment. To maintain good self care, it’s important to understand what you need to do to look after yourself daily.
By taking a proactive approach and embracing self-care practices, we are in turn protecting our wellbeing and preventing issues from occurring. Good self-care helps us to perform at our best and is key to preventing burnout in employees.
What is self-care
Self-care is different for everyone. For some, getting out in the fresh air and walking daily can be really beneficial.
Others may benefit from practising meditation, mindfulness or yoga, and for some, it may be as simple as eating well and ensuring you are getting enough sleep.
Understanding the role of therapy in
self-care
Therapy is often viewed as something people engage with when they are really struggling, or when they’re experiencing difficult life events, but therapy can also help you to maintain balance in all areas of life.
Therapy offers a safe space to talk freely without the fear of judgement.Therapists can help employees to understand themselves better, and will work with them to develop coping strategies specific to them.
Talking to a therapist can help employees better manage their own wellbeing, and prioritise looking after themselves amidst the stress and demands of everyday life. By investing in therapy for your employees, you are investing in their wellbeing now and in the future.
